NUKEM successfully completes international projects
- Projects in Russia, Italy, Czech Republic and China
- Order volume remains good
In 2006, NUKEM Technologies GmbH successfully completed projects in Russia, Italy, Czech Republic and China. The projects concluded in these four countries are a good reflection of the wide range provided by NUKEM in the fields of radioactive waste treatment and decommissioning.
In Russia, NUKEM completed two projects at the Kola nuclear power plant: The company delivered an innovative patented system for the retrieval of liquid waste from storage tanks at the site. In the next process step, this waste is to be concentrated using the evaporator plant also delivered.
In China, NUKEM planned and delivered two cementing plants for liquid radioactive waste; these are to condition the operational waste produced during reactor operation. In China, the statutory position is such that waste treatment must be guaranteed before nuclear power plants are granted an operating permit.
NUKEM has developed and supplied several plants for the EU research center ISPRA in Italy. Following the successful installation of a monitoring system for waste containers in 2005, a decontamination plant was set up in the year 2006 which is used to clean superficially contaminated materials. ISPRA also purchased a transport system for the transport of waste containers for measurement from NUKEM.
The Czech nuclear power plant Dukovany received a NUKEM-developed monitoring system for the monitoring and measurement of fuel elements.
In the light of the successful project processing in all these cases, NUKEM expects to receive further orders from these customers.
In particular on account of the large-scale projects that NUKEM Technologies is working on in Eastern Europe and South Africa, the company continues to have a good volume of orders on its books.
