Winfrith Operations, Maintenance and Decommissioning - NUKEM was awarded
a 45 m DM contract

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority has awarded NUKEM Nuclear Ltd., the british subsidiary of NUKEM Nuklear GmbH, Alzenau, a 45 m DM contract. NUKEM will decommission a number of facilities at UKAEA's Winfrith site in Dorset. Up to 90 NUKEM staff and 10 UKAEA staff will be employed on the task over more than eight years. Winfrith was built in the late 1950s as a center for nuclear research but is slowly being transformed, under the UKAEA's aegis, into a science and technology business center. The site is well advanced in nuclear decommissioning activities and the aim is to delicense areas as the environment is restored to allow for redevelopment. NUKEM is already one of the contractors on site, holding a longterm operations, decommissioning and maintenance support service contract. With this new contract, NUKEM once again demonstrates its strong position on the worldwide decommissioning market.
