Mobile Cementation Equipment for Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET)

30 November -0001

Contract

In 2016, NUKEM was tasked with the development and manufacturing of a mobile grouting system called Mobile Cementation Equipment (MCE) for the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) at Tsinghua University, Peking.

The system is intended to grout 5m³ of intermediate-level liquid waste (its activity being close to the upper limit) which will be then consigned to other waste management sites for further application.

Description

MCE is designed to cement three to five drums filled with liquid intermediate level waste per day.

The facility makes use of the in-drum cementation technology. In order to adapt the MCE to the existing site conditions and ensure a relatively independent operation, the entire system will be housed in three glove boxes.

MCE is equipped with its own HEPA filters, roller conveyors for drums transfer, an air compressor and cleaning devices. The use of an eccentric drive allows minimising cleaning effort through vibration of mixing blades. It takes only a few hours to install or dismantle the glove boxes, which allows relocating the facility in a prompt manner. For better mobility, the entire system, including switch cabinets, is designed to fit into a 20ft shipping container.
